 Evaluation and Intervention for Children With Dysphagia

Introduction :
Swallowing disorder of children is different with adult's one in structural characteristics or developmental factors etc. Therapist should understand the structural characteristics or developmental factors accurately in accordance with the child development and use approach by the child's developmental level. It was described the nature, type and how to evaluate of swallowing disorder in children. The treatment by result was also suggested in this study.

Main Subject :
The development of swallowing is affected by the development of eye-hand coordination, normal posture and muscle tone that child experienced and psychosocial factors. The child has the functional differences anatomically. Structures and functions the related suck, swallow and breathe are related very closely as well as provides oxygen and food through double role. In referral for evaluation, the most case are that whether food intake by mouth is safe and efficient method or whether is intaken appropriate food nutritionally. The evaluation is implemented through observation, interview with parents, response and interaction with environment, arousal state, VFSS and FEES. The treatment of swallowing disorder requires multi-dimensional therapeutic approach.

Conclusions :
In swallowing disorder of child, the problems should be identify by using appropriate assessment in accordance with child's developmental level and clinical signs.   The food activities for children need to multiple evaluation and treatment approach including  oral sensory and motor skills as well as psycho-social skills.
