Methods:Thesubjectinthisstudywasdiagnosedfrom universityhospitalasstoke.A single-subject,alternating- treatmentdesignwasappliedinthisstudy.SubjectalternatelyparticipatedindailyMendelshon maneuversessionandelectricalstimulationsession.TheoutcomesweremeasuredusingGUSS(Gugging SwallowingScreen),whichwerecollectedduringallsessionsofthestudy,andVFS(functionaldysphagia scalebasedonvideofluoroscopicstudies),whichwereperformedatoneweekinterval.23sessionmeasurementsweremadeduringthebaselineandtreatmentphases. Results:ThescoresoftheVFS forthetwomethodswereimprovedinthetreatmentphasesoverthe baseline.However,therewasnodifferencebetweenthetwomethods.ThescoreoftheGUSS wasnot changedbetweenthebaselineandtreatmentphases. Conclusion:Accordingtothestudyresults,theMendelshonmaneuverandelectricalstilmulationtherapyare efficaciousmethodstoimprovetheswallowingfunctionforstrokepatientswithdysphagiacausedbypharyngealmuscleweakness. Theresultsofthisstudyfailedtodetermineclearlywhichtreatmentmethodwas moreeffective.Morecase-controlstudieswithgreatersamplesizes,andlongerinterventionsarerequired inthefutureinordertodeterminetheclinicalbenefitsofvarioustreatmentmethodsfordysphagicpatients.
